Charter Construction recently broke ground for its new headquarters
building at 980 S. Harney St., in the heart of Seattle's Georgetown
neighborhood.
The 12,000-square-foot building was designed by SHKS Architects of Seattle. It is scheduled for completion in July 2003.
"The innovative design reinterprets classic forms of industrial
architecture and utilizes a deep red metal siding that blends with the
older brick warehouses in the neighborhood," said architect Jonathan
Hartung. "The interior is designed to encourage open collaboration
between project teams and takes advantage of open space, high ceilings
and extensive windows."
The building will be surrounded by extensive landscaping and will
use renewable materials and energy-efficient construction methods that
have earned it a "silver" LEED certification from Seattle City Light
and the U.S. Green Building Council.
Charter Construction is the general contractor. Key design-build
subcontractors include Pro-Staff Mechanical, North Star Electric and
CHG Building Systems. The owner and developer is Wooden LLC. Charter's
project manager is Eric Blaser.
