Frank Firmani of Seattle-based Charter Construction has taken over
as president of the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Washington.
Firmani
At the AGC's recent annual meeting,
Firmani outlined some of the issues he says will be critical to the
construction industry and the AGC this year, including hiring a new
executive director within the next month and forming a "visionary
committee" to analyze the AGC's structure and services. That commitee
will make recommendations by the end of the year.
Firmani said legislative priorities for the year include
gathering support for additional transportation funding, finding
permanent funding sources for common school construction, securing
adequate funding for college and university campus capital improvements
and protecting the public works trust funds.
Other new officers for 1998 include Hank Stamschror of
Mountain States Construction as first vice president; Gene Colin of
Ferguson Construction as second vice president; Tom Balbo of Turner
Construction Co. as secretary and Arne Vemo of The Vemo Co. as
treasurer.
The AGC also honored William Taylor of Wilder Construction in
Everett as the AGC Contractor Member of the Year for his service to the
industry. He has been Northern District vice president and worked on
the Apprenticeship Coalition and Task Force 21, a group that is
planning for the association's future. Piper Doan of Tangent Electric
of Woodinville was named Affiliate Member of the Year for her work on
the City of Seattle Apprenticeship Task Force and the Project Labor
Agreement Task Force.
