Owner: Cedar River Water & Sewer District
Architect: The Driftmier Architects, PS
Completion: August 2006
Project Overview
Charter worked within the owner’s tight budget and long-term development plan to deliver two new buildings for the Cedar River Water and Sewer District.
The water district’s new operations center included a 12,000 SF, two-story administration building and a 5,600 SF vehicle maintenance facility. Additional scope involved extensive site improvements such as concrete hardscape, paving, site trellises, water features, site lighting, retaining walls, rockeries and landscaping. Several large timbers and finish lumber materials were logged off the project site during clearing, milled and incorporated into the project. Much of the project was completed in phases, with Charter responsible for final completion of a project that spanned 12 months.
Though the job site was directly adjacent to the water district’s existing facility, Charter coordinated its work to ensure that construction would not interfere with the district’s ongoing operations.
Charter worked within an unbending public works budget, offering far-reaching value engineering early in the process to ensure that the project would not sacrifice the architectural intent or the client’s expectations.
