DORFFEL DRIVE RESIDENCE

Owner: Confidential

Architect: Sullivan Conard Architects

Start Date: April 2007

When it was built in 1903, this 10-room, 8,000 SF Victorian-style residence in Seattle's Madrona neighborhood was a shining example of the work of renowned Seattle architects William E. Boone and James N. Corner. Now, more than 100 years later, Charter Construction is restoring the home to its original grandeur.

Work includes new siding and roofing, structural upgrades, new exterior decks and select new interior finishes for the kitchen and master bedroom. Many finishes will remain intact and touched-up to preserve the historic nature of the home. Landscape improvements include new exterior walkways, a double stair entry and a new spa.

Charter crews have conducted exhaustive product research so existing items can be repaired or refinished instead of purchased new. Many of the existing windows are being restored, and those that are being replaced are being retrofit with glass from windows elsewhere in the home. Selective demolition has allowed the hardwood flooring and much of the original plaster to remain in place. Charter crews are working closely with the owner and vendors to successfully integrate historic items – such as the existing heat radiators – with new systems.
