Architect: Trnka Engineers Co.
Completion: October 1998
Charter hit the ground running on this extensive industrial facility
renovation. The former Tacoma Boat Building Company structure
had to be ready to accommodate Ace Tank and Equipment in just five
short months, and the facility required an overhaul from top to bottom.
All major systems at the Tacoma facility were upgraded, including
structural, seismic, foundation, building envelope, water, fire,
HVAC and electrical. The addition of new systems, such as compressed
air and gas, were added to accommodate the new tenant. New paint
and cure buildings along with a new blast building were built, and
new semi-gantry and bridge cranes were installed. Once the
renovation was complete, all Ace production material, equipment and
personnel were relocated to the new facility.
Because of the tight and unmovable schedule, design and construction
were occurring simultaneously, further stressing the compressed timeline.
Charter sped up the process by providing additional field engineering
to augment the work done by the engineering firm.
