Charter’s skilled craftsmen
exceeded the expectations of an extremely discerning owner with the
construction of this museum-quality home. The end result was a gorgeous home featured in Architectural Digest's "The Great Design Issue" in May, 2003.
The home was designed to fit the location – on a steep slope
overlooking Elliott Bay and Duwamish Head with striking views of
the city. Its technically challenging location in a sensitive slide
area required installation of 65 auger cast pilings to stabilize
the difficult foundation system.
The home’s exterior finishes, which include architectural
concrete walls and columns, stucco and clear cedar siding, demanded
precise installations. The numerous vertical planes and edges, which
align with various structural elements, also required extreme precision.
Glass windows, sized to the upper limits of the building code, had
to be installed with a crane.
Despite the job’s rigorous requirements and the site’s
precarious nature, Charter exceeded the owner’s high expectations
for exacting finishes and smooth management.
