Completion: February 1999
Charter completed extensive structural modifications to Mikron’s
existing manufacturing facility with a compressed schedule and difficult
site conditions. The project included shoring the existing tilt-up
walls with 24-foot-deep sheet piling, as well as shoring the existing
roof truss system in the 8,000 SF work area. Charter also removed
the existing slab, excavated more than 10 feet deep, and built a
very complex system of cast-in-place concrete foundations, ascending
and descending troughs, and machine bases and hold-downs.
With new manufacturing equipment soon to be delivered, Mikron required
that Charter complete this challenging job far ahead of the original
schedule. In addition, Charter was required to keep a very clean
site so as not to interrupt the operation of a critical manufacturing
line adjacent to the project location. The project called for innovative
techniques, continuous attention to processes and fast and accurate
execution of all phases of construction.
