While students of St. Joseph’s were enjoying their summer
break, Charter crews were busy performing substantial seismic upgrades
to their 80-year-old school.
Charter had much to complete during the nine-week hiatus. Two of
the floors were tied to the exterior walls as well as to the core
of the building. Six, 40-ft. trusses weighing 65 lbs. per foot were
dropped in through the roof.
The aging facility presented numerous challenges. Workers encountered
numerous unexpected electrical and plumbing lines that required rerouting,
and an existing wall was found to have no foundation support as originally
thought. These unforeseen conditions weren’t enough to keep
Charter from finishing this project on budget and in time for the
students’ return in the fall.
