To meet the intent of the architect, construction
of this design-heavy guesthouse required significant site work
and careful attention to detail.
Set at the edge of a forest, the house was designed to be visually
isolated from the primary residence. To minimize the structure’s
impact on the landscape, the architects sank the house into the side
of a topographical depression.
Excavation work was completed carefully amongst existing old growth
Douglas fir trees. The large concrete retaining wall doubled as an
interior gallery wall for art displays, requiring extra attention.
