Charter Construction demolished the existing home and built a new, Capitol Hill Residence, incorporating many energy efficient features.  Nearly half of the owners’ daily energy needs are now met by use of photovoltaic panels (solar power), and the earth’s ground temperature is utilized to help heat the home using geo-wells.

The “hot room”, similar to a sauna, incorporates radiant heat cables in the walls and ceiling and a heated, sand floor.

The lot is located at the end of a narrow street with no turn around access and in an environmentally critical area due to a steep slope on one end of the property. The only option for vehicles was to back down the street.  Coupled with a very limited staging area for materials, careful planning of all activities and material deliveries was required.

Our experience working with Charter Construction over the course of a year to build our new home on Capitol Hill in Seattle deviated from the anticipated norm. We not only love the home our crew built for us, on time and on budget, but we appreciate having had an opportunity to work closely with such high class and fun people to realize one of our longstanding dreams. The Charter guys only rarely appear at our doorstep these days, but we will always welcome them with a smile and a beer.
