To fit extensive, high-end finishes into a limited space with restricted access, Charter crews had to “think small” during this Belltown condominium’s penthouse renovation.

The 1,500 SF space is 13 stories off the ground with no freight elevator. Crews used a small common access elevator to transport equipment and materials. With the elevator’s dimensions smaller than the average piece of sheetrock and two-by-four, large materials had to be trimmed down. Once the materials reached their destination, crews adopted a “boat fitters” mentality in order to achieve the small space’s high-end finishes specified by the owner and designer.

Unique design aspects include a set of stairs built using acrylic and bamboo. The stairs’ translucent landing is the ceiling of the master shower below, allowing natural light into the bathroom space.
With limited ingress and egress of particular concern, Charter crews took extra precautions to protect finishes, keep the building clean and maintain communication between builders, tenants and the homeowner.
