In 1997, the Seattle Waldorf School developed a master plan for the renovation and expansion of its school facilities. Charter Construction provided program management along with estimating and scheduling services to divide the work into three phases. In summer 2000, Charter constructed the first phase – the new classroom addition.
The school is set at the base of a hillside, which required a substantial amount of civil work and environmental sensitivity. Water redirected from the site was incorporated into a pond and a stream, which flows through the school grounds to the salmon-bearing Thornton Creek. Charter completed the civil work and the addition during the three-month summer holiday with minimal impact on the school schedule.
