To meet the intent of the architect, construction of this design-heavy guesthouse required significant site work and careful attention to detail.
Set at the edge of a forest, the house was designed to be visually isolated from the primary residence. To minimize the structure’s impact on the landscape, the architects sank the house into the side of a topographical depression.
Excavation work was completed carefully amongst existing old growth Douglas fir trees. The large concrete retaining wall doubled as an interior gallery wall for art displays, requiring extra attention.
