Capitol Hill ResidenceCharter Construction demolished the existing home and built a new Capitol Hill Residence incorporating many energy efficient features. Nearly half of the owners’ daily energy needs are now met by use of photovoltaic panels (solar power), and the earth’s ground temperature is utilized to help heat the home using geo-wells.
The “hot room”, similar to a sauna, incorporates radiant heat cables in the walls and ceiling and a heated, sand floor.
The lot is located at the end of a narrow street with no turn around access and in an environmentally critical area due to a steep slope on one end of the property. The only option for vehicles was to back down the street. Coupled with a very limited staging area for materials, careful planning of all activities and material deliveries was required.
