Charter Construction responded to a flood in a 15 story loft style building in downtown Portland. The building’s supply line burst on the 7th floor and the water made its way down through 4 floors. There were 9 affected units with significant damage to most. Charter had to flood cut the drywall so that the unit walls could be dried out. Kitchen finishes were removed in order to get to the drywall and flooring surfaces and to reach the supply lines for repair. The countertops were sacrificed in order to get the cabinets out without being damaged. The work was coordinated on a tight downtown site that made access and material manipulation challenging. Client communication was critical during this process to ensure that realistic expectations could be set and met or exceeded.
